Breed History

Originating in Southern Georgian, in the Alapaha River region of the stat, the sturdy, muscular bulldogs were developed to protect livestock and crops. They are an extremely alert breed that makes an excellent gaurdian for the home and family. The dogs are quite athletic for their size and are very algile despite their large massive appearance.

The Alapaha can have mottled patches of color in a solid or piebald coat of the "blue" color, brown, red or white with chocolate trim.

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was the result of breeding program started in the 1800s in southern Georgia, USA. The breeding program was established to help rescue the diminishing "plantation dogs" of Southern Georgia who were dwindling in numbers with the threat of becoming extinct. The breed is known for their devotion and ability to provide both security and companionship.

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog Personality

The Alapaha breed is is devoted and obedient when trained as a puppy as all dogs should be. They will keenly defend the home and family of the owners and are warm creatures with loving hearts and a great demeanor with children. Of course, early socialization of the dog is extremely important to ensure a strong bond with children and to maintain a respect for their human keepers.

They can be territorial if not given correct early training. Being intelligent, the breed responds well to training and understands many commands.

These are very courageous animals and will protect you in a crisis. The Dogo will bark, but usually only when necessary.
